Queen Mary restoration boost

Restoration plans for the former Cunard liner Queen Mary have been given a boost as a result of a commitment by the City of Long Beach to spend US$8 million on the ship over the next two years. A maritime survey of the ship's structure is to be carried out, with particular emphasis on refurbishment of her side shell, lifeboat restoration, and an evaluation of the practicality of reusing her swimming pool. Efforts are continuing to find a model to generate new fundraising and future marketing opportunities.
