Fears have been raised that the destroyer Charles F. Adams could be removed from 'Donation Hold' status and sent for scrap. Plans had been put in place by the Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association (JHNSA) for the ship to become a floating museum in Jacksonville, Florida but a further $1.5 million is needed to get the US Navy to release the ship. This may prove impossible to raise without public support from the mayor and city council, but the latter has delayed discussions and has removed the project from its agenda. Charles F. Adams saw active duty in the Bay of Pigs and Cuban blockade and carried out support operations in Vietnam, as well as taking part in deployments to the Mediterranean and Middle East.
