Arrow joins summer operation

Seatruck ro-ro Arrow (1991/7,606gt) was sub-chartered by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co to Acciona Trasmediterranea for the massive annual 'Passage of the Straits' operation taking North African workers from European centres home across the Strait of Gibraltar from Spanish ports before returning them north in August. Arrow arrived on 28 June to join 13 other vessels running from Algeciras or Ceuta to the Moroccan port of Tanger Med. The line-up also included vessels owned or chartered in by Balearia, FRS and Intershipping. Trasmed also ran from Almeria to Ghazaouet, Melilla, Nador and Oran, with Sorolla (2001/26,916gt) supported by a trio of chartered ships once well-known in British waters, headed by Sherbatskiy (1980/13,728gt), which served P&O as Pride of Free Enterprise and Pride of Bruges and was latterly TransEuropa Ferries' Oleander.
