Sovcomflot, Russia's largest shipping company, has taken delivery of its latest LNC carrier, the 300m by 46m Velikiy Novgorod (113,876gt, pictured), from South Korea's STX Offshore & Shipbuilding. The 170,200m~3 capacity ice-class ship has been fitted with a diesel-electric, dual-fuel propulsion system consisting of two MAN 8L51/60DF and two MAN 9L51/60DF engines generating a total of 34MW. This provides the Russian vessel with a highly efficient low-emission propulsion system, especially when running in gas mode, and gives a high degree of mechanical redundancy.
