Abandoned at Algeciras

Algeciras is the gateway to Morocco by sea, from where dozens of ferries sail each day to Tangier. It is a highly competitive trade, which booms during the summer, when thousands of emigrant workers return home for the holidays. Among the ships now abandoned there are the former St Christopher of Sealink and the one-time Reine Astrid of Belgium's RMT, both of which spent many years running from Dover. They belonged to the combined COMARIT-COMANAV operation, which collapsed in early 2012, marooning their crew and leaving the vessels to decay.
