The US Navy has awarded new contracts worth US$4,3 billion for the detailed design and ongoing construction of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), the second ship in the Gerald R. Ford class of carriers. The work will be carried out by Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division.
