On 8 April Ovation of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International's 24th and latest ship, was handed over by the Meyer Werft yard in Bremerhaven, almost a year after sistership Anthem of the Seas joined the fleet and 18 months after Quantum of the Seas introduced this class of ship to the world of cruising. The contract for this third Quantum class ship was signed on 30 May 2013, and the keel-laying formalities followed on 5 March 2015, when the first of 74 block sections was placed in the building dock. The float-out was on 18 February 2016, and the ship began the 12-hour, 26-mile long passage of the river Ems to the Dutch North Sea port of Eemshaven on 11 March.
