After a gap of more than ten years, the Hurtigruten Group, operator of the famous Norwegian Coastal Voyage, has come back to the newbuild market with a vengeance, placing an order for two revolutionary new ships and taking options on a second pair. The new ships will be an addition to the exploration fleet, although they may also be used in Coastal Voyage service. Rolls Royce will undertake the design of the ships, in conjunction with Norwegian ship designer Espen Oino, and they will be built in Norway by Kleven Werft at Ullsteinvik. When the first of the initial pair is delivered in 2018, she will accommodate 600 passengers in 300 cabins. The second ship is expected to enter service in 2019.
