Maersk renewing tanker fleet

Denmark's Maersk Tankers, which currently owns and charters a fleet of 156 ships, has taken delivery of the 50,000dwt Medium Range (MR) tankers Maersk Teesport and Maersk Tianjin from South Korea's Sungdong Shipyard as part of a project to replace approximately 20 per cent of its tanker fleet over the next several years. Sungdong had delivered the similar sized Maersk Tangier earlier this year and Maersk Tampa and Maersk Tacoma late last year, while another nine tankers are being built by China's Ningbo Shipyard, all for delivery beginning next year and continuing through to 2018. Maersk Tankers owns and operates a large fleet, having acquired its first dedicated tanker in 1928, and is expanding and improving its fleet to meet customer needs.
