In a time much removed from today's constant conflicts in the Eastern Mediterranean, a classical Heel of combination passenger/cargo ships sailed to ports that were still considered somewhat exotic at the time, all graced with the funnel colours of Italy's Adriatica Line. As a company, Adriatica no longer exists, having been caught tip in the Italian government's privatisation scheme of 2012 and rolled into Tirrenia, which is now controlled by Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione.
