DINARD Channel stalwart to Baltic ferry pioneer

Just over 60 years ago, on 6 June 1959, the former English Channel ferry Dinard started the first Baltic car ferry sailings from Mariehamn, capital of the Aland Islands, to the Swedish mainland port of Graddo under the name Viking. It was a modest beginning for what still flourishes today as Viking Line, operating a fleet of seven large cruise ferries and with a 63,800gt giant building in China and due for delivery towards the end of 2020.
