BURNT-OUT FERRY STILL IN PORT

The former ferry Norman Atlantic remains docked at the port of Bari in southern Italy more than three years after she caught fire in the Strait of Otranto, on a routine run from Patras to Ancona, with tragi c consequences. A fire broke out on the car deck just before 0600 local time on 28 December 2014, half an hour after she had left the port of Igoumenitsa, Greece, anintermediate stop. She was 44 nautical miles north-west of Corfu, and 33 nautical miles north-west of the island of Othonoi, carrying 222 vehicles and 487 passengers, with 55 crew on board.
