Commercial shipbuilding is again under pressure mid of 2015. Looking at the first six months of 2015 we noticed signs of worries: 1. much slower newbuilding activities 2. much lower shipping capacity delivered 3. still oversupply, especially in the container and bulk sectors 4. newbuilding prices staying low 5. shipyard dying: there are currently only 288 active shipyards worldwide compared to 590 yards in 2008. During 2015 we see low ordering activities. Only 37 million dwt (370 ships) have been reported as new orders in the first half of 2015, so the volume of 116 million dwt (1,590 ships) reached during the year 2014 will not be reached this year. The steady decrease in deliveries from yards since the peak in 2011 continued also in the first half of 2015. Only 776 merchant vessels with a combined 49 million dwt have been delivered to the world merchant fleet, 30 per cent less than expected based on the delivery schedules.
