Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (SSK) has its origin as one of the former Japanese Imperial Navy dockyards, and in 1946 started as a commercial shipyard by using those facilities. Shipbuilding: Bulk carriers, oil tankers, and specialized ships such as VLGCs, which enjoy a high reputation from worldwide shipowners. Ship-repairing: Conversions, special / intermediate survey repairs, and damage repairs with four (4) repair docks, one of which can handle vessels of a maximum 400,000 DWT. Machinery: Crankshafts and fin stabilizers.
