Norwegian and German yards turn out cable layers

Two turn-abouts in offshore new-building fortunes have sparked new cable layer business this year at Norway's Ulstein Verft and at former GDR shipyard, Volkswerft, in Germany. Ulstein delivered the advanced NOK300 million multi-purpose offshore support vessel Far Santana to Norway's Farstad Shipping in February and the Western Neptune - the last of two seismic ships - to Western Geophysical in January.
