The fast Ferry Conference & Exhibition returns to North America in 2001, this time to New Orleans. It is the show's second visit to the USA and follows the success of the event in Boston in 1999. The move to New Orleans was almost inevitable as shipyards from the city and the surrounding Gulf ports, continuing on a long tradition of shipbuilding, now form a significant part of the fast ferry building industry in the USA. Developments at Halter, Textron, Swiftships and the new Austal USA yard in nearby Mobile, makes New Orleans a hub of fast ferry activity, explained Giles Clark, managing director of 4midable Ltd, the event organiser.
