Sonasurf, part of Surf, itself part of Marseille, France-based Groupe Bourbon has taken delivery of Kemba, the first example of unique Fast Support & Intervention (FSIV) vessel intended for use in the offshore industry in West Africa. Surf has been providing marine support services to the offshore oil and gas industries for nearly 30 years, and has around 90% of its fleet based in West Africa, in countries including Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, the Congo and Angola, and just 10% of its fleet based in European waters, although it has recently gained a foothold in the North Sea via an alliance with Norwegian offshore operator Eidesvik. A joint venture with the Angolan national oil company Sonangol led to the creation of Sonasurf, the main role of which is to provide support for oil and gas platforms in deep water offshore Angola.
