FAR and CNOOC in West African offshore blind spot

Australian firm FAR's drilling schedule for the Gambianoffshore Block A2 is becoming clearer: it is due to starton 1 November using Stena Drilling's Stena Icemax rig.The Gambian authorities are banking on the Bambo-1well, as they are keen to at last enter the club ofproducing countries. So far, despite the proximity of theSenegalese Sangomar permit (held by Woodside Energy),offshore exploration has not borne fruit. FAR and itspartner Petronas have only drilled one disappointing wellin 2018 on this A2 block (AI, 26/02/19).
