IMO acknowledges WIG craft in amended regulations

The amendments to the IMO Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 (Colregs), entered into force on 29 November 2003. The amendments, adopted in November 2001, to the existing Rules feature new provisions relating to Wing-In Ground (WIG) craft. Such vessels can cause problems for the rule makers, falling solidly between ships and aircraft - even more so than hovercraft. So the new regulations are, mainly, welcome, though there are still areas in which WIG craft fall into both camps, though not necessarily at the same time.
