North American tug design specialist Robert Allen reports several newbuilds based on its drawings. One such is being completed at Irving Shipbuilding in Canada, to the ASD 33/55 design, for Partrederiet Stevns of Denmark. The 33.5m tug is designed for both ship assist and ocean towing duties. The vessel, currently being outfitted in Irving's yard in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is due for delivery in summer 2005. Measuring 33.5m x 11.6m x 5.20m draught, the LR-classed Ice Class B tug will be powered by a pair of Caterpillar MAK 6M25 diesels, each developing 1850kW at 750rev/min. Rolls-Royce Aquamaster US255 Z drives with CP propellers will be installed, providing a bollard pull of about 65tonnes. The vessel will have a speed of about 13knots. To provide maximum flexibility, the tug will be equipped with a Rolls-Royce Kamewa 300kW CP bow thruster. Auxiliary power is provided by two 200kW Volvo Penta TAMD 103A gensets and one Volvo Penta TAMD 74C 100kW harbour set installed in an acoustic enclosure.
