Waertsilae and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) have signed a ten-renewal of the existing co-operation agreement for the sale, manufacture and service of Waertsilae low-speed marine diesel engines.rnThe licence co-operation agreement is a basis for exchanging diesel-engine technology between Waertsilae and Mitsubishi, defining and regulating intellectual property rights, and the delivery and feedback of technical information and support.rnSuch licence agreements allow synergies to the participating companies of aggregating research, development and design with the licensor while distributing and localising manufacture to licensees in separate countries.rnBesides building Waertsilae-designed engines, Mitsubishi has over the years also contributed to the development of Waertsilae low-speed engines and often built the first examples of new engine types. This long co-operation led more recently to successful joint development of the Waertsilae RT-flex50 and Mitsubishi UEC50LSE two-stroke engine types.
