Incat Crowther launches 37m catamaran for Africa

Australian naval architects Incat Crowther have announced the launch of a second 37m catamaran passenger ferry for Coastal Fast Ferries of Tanzania. This vessel represents a repeat order from the operator, having accepted the first vessel in July 2009.rnThe vessel, Kilimanjaro II, was built by Richardson Devine Marine in Tasmania, the vessel is a repeat order from the operator, resulting in validation of both the design and build quality delivered in the sister ship Kilimanjaro.rnLike its predecessor, Kilimanjaro II has been specifically designed and engineered for operation in Africa. The vessel utilises previous design experience in designing vessels for operators in remote areas with limited infrastructure. The systems and structures have been simplified to create a vessel that is efficient to maintain and operate. Kilimanjaro has already proven this philosophy leads to better reliability and increased profitability for the operator, results that clearly prompted the repeat order.
