German shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen recently oversaw the delivery and christening of Skrunda, the first of five patrol boats under construction for the Latvian Navy, and the 12th vessel so far to be designed to Abeking & Rasmussen's 'SWATH' concept. SWATH seeks to offer an estimated three to tour times as much seaworthiness when operating in high sea states, compared to larger ships, as well as providing benefits such as low fuel consumption, more compact machinery and low life-cycle costs. Each member of the SWATH family is 25m long.
