Fire and risk analysis experts at SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden (SP), together with naval architects, shipyard representatives and composite experts from Denmark and Sweden, have been involved in a project that includes a feasibility study on a lightweight, low emissions island ferry built from plastic composites. "The purpose of the project is to bring the composite ferry through all regulations, approvals and design phases to discover and conquer all hindrances that may be posed against such a design," says Franz Evegren, research scientist in fire safety engineering and risk management at SP.
