Far be it for Ship & Boat International to recommend commercial solutions for readers, but our interview with Otso Ltd in this issue's Offshore Wind Farm Support Vessels feature (see pages 30-33) did get us thinking: why are so few operators and shipbuilders keen to invest in walk-to-work solutions? As pointed out by Otso's Mark Warren, there is the sense that wider adoption of these systems will most likely come about as a result of two scenarios; either a forward-looking company purchasing a walk-to-work system and publicising the subsequent financial benefits they accrue (primarily through the ability to transfer technicians in high seas, thus avoiding wasted journeys and widening the operational window); or, at worst, a catastrophic accident forcing the industry's hand.
