Macduff Ship Design has been awarded a contract to provide the designs for two 19m azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugs and five mooring tugs for the Turkish Shipyard RMK. Situated in Tuzla, having originally been established in Istanbul in 1978, RMK may have been better known for its super yacht output up until the mid-2000s, when the yard decided to diversify into the production of multi-purpose vessels and, now, tugboats. The contract has come about as a result of Macduff Ship Design's work for neighbouring shipyard Torgem, with which Macduff has built up a longstanding relationship, having completed nine vessels for the yard last year. These latest tugs for RMK are currently at the design development stage - both models will comprise new designs specifically developed for towing and pushing duties, and each will feature an endurance of 72 hours when operating fully loaded.
