OK Hull variations leave the blocks

Following the epic 1,300-mile extreme voyage of Rafnar's 11m Cabin Explorer RIB Embla across the North Atlantic from Reykjavik to Gothenburg (see Ship & Boat International July/August, pages 30-35), the team at this dynamic Nordic yard has focused on the launch of two new products in its RIB range based upon its unique OK Hull & Keel technology. After a specific request from the Icelandic Coast Guard, which has already had an llm Leiftur 1100 Cabin RIB in operational service for the past year, the Rafnar team recently delivered an easy-to-deploy 8.5m Special Service Open RIB for rapid response use from the coast guard's mothership. This compact RIB is jet-driven, using a Volvo Penta D6 246kW engine which powers an MJP Ultrajet 251HT, enabling a speed of 30knots. The patented OK Hull technology has been scaled down for this size requirement and the RIB is reported to boast the same performance, comfort and stability levels as her bigger sisters.
