Due to make its service debut during the opening quarter of 2017, the first of a new generation of tugs based on the Carrousel -RAVE concept promises to raise the bar in towage and escort performance. The outcome of collaboration between Vancouver-based naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd (RAL) and German propulsion specialist Voith Turbo, the novel design features main thrusters arranged in-line along the centreline of the hull and the Novatug-patented Carrousel Towing System (CTS) on the main deck. The RAVE part of the designation denotes 'Robert Allan Voith Escort'.
