Dwindling demand for new oil and gas-platform specific OSVs has forced many European designers and boatyards to consider alternative vessels - for the time being, at least. As mentioned in our Europe feature in Ship & Boat International September / October 2015 (page 62), Norwegian naval architect Skipsteknisk provides one example of a designer that has temporarily shifted its focus onto the fishing vessel sector, which is proving far more consistent when it comes to new orders than the still-depressed offshore segment.
