Ocean Signal has launched its SafeSea EPIRB1 Pro, a compact emergency position indicating rescue beacon (EPIRB) with a 10-year battery life. The unit features a claimed "30% reduction in size compared to other EPIRBs" and can be released from a Category 1 automatic deployment bracket once submerged in water, should the vessel sink. After floating free, the SafeSea EPIRB1 Pro transmits distress alerts and the survivors' location to rescue agencies for a period of up to 48 hours. The unit measures 178mm (h)×89mm (w) ×100mm (d) and weighs 422g, and can operate in temperatures spanning -20°C to 55°C. The EPIRB is waterproof to a depth of 10m. Ocean Signal says: "Using the next-gen [MEOSAR] network, anyone activating an EPIRB1 Pro can expect their beacon to be located within 100m, 95% of the time, within five minutes of the distress signal." The product also features a 121.5MHz homing beacon and an LED strobe light.
