One regular feature of the Worldwide Ferry Safety Association's (WFSAs) annual conference is its 'Design Competition for a Safe and Affordable Ferry' - and this year's gathering, hosted in New York City in March, did not disappoint.For this year's competition - the fifth, to date - the WFS A challenged student teams to come up with the design for a 300-passenger capacity ferry operating in the Singapore Strait, between Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. The yearly contest places an emphasis on safe design and ergonomics, as well as affordability and the ability to be constructed by shipyards within the target region (see Ship & Boat International November/December 2017, pages 20-24).
