Field Testing and Evaluation of SPRERI Updraft Gasifier Burner System for Industrial Heat Applications

Updraft gasifier burner systems of SPRERI design, having maximum woody waste conversion capacity of 40 kg/h were installed in two industries for field testing and evaluation, one for aluminum smelting and another for hot air generation. The work included installation of the gasifier systems, their testing in terms of technical and environmental performances and fuel cost savings. The study revealed that the updraft gasifier design is very well suited for the operations studied. System performance was consistently good at every site in terms of flame temperature and output. Fuel cost analysis revealed that gasifier based operations reduced the fuel cost per unit output in every case by more than 50% through replacing light diesel oil (LDO).
