The Current Economic Down- rnturn has had a drastic impact on revenue for semiconductor equipment suppliers. This decrease in revenue means that less money will be available for R&D, making the transition to 450 mm wafers even less attractive than outlined in the 2008 white paper published by the Equipment Productivity Working Group (EPWG) -a SEMI Board of Directors-commissioned study group. With 450 mm's potential cost benefit further reduced, the incentive to increase the productivity of 300 mm wafers fabs is even higher.
