The comments of Kelletat (2008) regarding Dawson and Stewart (2007) and Morton et al. (2006) are appreciated because they provide an opportunity for elaboration and additional discussion. In essence Kelletat's response represents a summary of recent research on coastal boulder deposits produced as a result of extreme-wave events. This research has opinion divided between those who prefer tsunamis as the key process leading to boulder deposition along coastlines and those who envisage extreme storms as a critical process associated with boulder deposition. Not surprisingly, Kelletat (2008) uses his reply to make the case for tsunami boulder deposition over storm deposition.
