Farewell Spirit

A bottle of Plymouth gin was presented to Philip Wake FNI on his farewell visit to the South West of England Branch as the Chief Executive of The Nautical Institute. It was an appropriate gift and in line with Royal Naval tradition. A 'Plymouth Gin Commissioning kit', a wooden box containing two bottles of navy strength Plymouth gin and glassware is presented to all newly commissioned vessels of the Royal Navy (see photo, right). Philip also took the opportunity of his visit to look at infrastructure which is being developed for the future of the maritime industry at Plymouth University.The visit included a short tour of the Marine Building with its associated full bridge simulator and ECDIS training facilities and the University's Marine Station, a unique waterfront development providing facilities for the next generation of marine scientists, biologists, engineers and environmentalists.
