As connectivity improves, journalists, lawyers, activists and others are becoming aware of just how easy it is to contact a vessel at sea. The pressure on seafarers is increasing - and this is only going to continue. As crisis communications specialists, our job is to communicate with journalists on behalf of our clients following any incident involving one of their vessels. One of the most common questions journalists ask is, 'Can we talk to the crew?', followed closely by, 'When are the crew coming ashore so we can meet them?' and 'Which hotel will they be staying at?' Journalists know that seafarers arc an excellent source of information and that quoting a seafarer in their story will make the report more interesting - people would rather read about the people involved in a situation rather than just the metal involved.
