PSA Singapore installs prototype bendable solar panels

Terminal operator PSA Singapore Terminals is trialing cutting-edge ultra thin solar panels at its latest container terminal in the Lion City. At the terminal building of Pasir Panjang Terminal 3, PSA along with Japan's Solar Frontier, has completed the first-ever installation of prototype ultra-light and bendable CIS thin-film solar panel modules. Unlike standard solar panels, the modules developed by Solar Frontier's Atsugi Research Center in Japan, the glass substrate layer has been replaced with a bendable and thin metal substrate and the cover glass has been replaced with a high performance resin film cover. The result is panels that are just 1,5mm in thickness and a third of the weight of a standard solar panel.
