I have a cool job. I'm a submariner who served at sea aboard USS Greenville and USS Connecticut and was a tactics instructor at Naval Submarine School. As Engineer Officer aboard USS Connecticut, I participated in ICEX 2018, where we conducted operations with Camp Skate, a temporary research station erected on an ice floe in the Arctic. During an ICEX, the submarine or submarines (we participated in ICEX 2018 with USS Hartford and the Royal Navy submarine HMS Trenchant) spent much of the time operating submerged, but also come to the camp and surface through the ice on several occasions. On Connecticut, we broke through the ice eight or nine times, and the crew had opportunities to get out on the ice and hang out with the other submarine crews, which was pretty exciting.
