Taiwan Eyes New Class Of Fast-Attack Craft

The Republic of China Navy (ROCN) is planning for a new class of small fast-attack craft (FACs). The vessels are expected to displace around 50 tons and will cost an estimated $1.03 billion. In September, the ROCN requested the funding from parliament in the 2019 defense budget.The new FACs will be part of larger program, including Tengyun drones, to strengthen Taiwan's asymmetric defense in the face of growing People's Liberation Army-Navy offensive capabilities. The vessels will be capable of firing two Hsiung Feng II anti-ship missiles or two torpedoes and have one 20 mm autocannon.
