摘要

When troops were sent to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of the global war on terrorism, the nature of warfare as the country had known it had changed. While some of the change was prompted in Washington by the Pentagon, most was developed and enacted by the troops on the ground as they adapted to a host of new challenges. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Jack Coughlin was one such soldier whose independent thinking and deft skills were essential to fighting a new kind of war. Coughlin is a sniper, perhaps one of the most respected and feared in the Corps, and his memoir, Shooter, offers a uniquely intimate look into the life of one trained to live in the shadows.
