Galinis, an electrical engineer, acquired experience as a surface warfare officer in the engineering departments of two frigates before becoming a designated Engineering Duty Officer (EDO). Since then, he has gained more than 22 years' experience as an EDO in ship procurement and related assignments.Galinis has served in shipbuilding programs including LSDs, DD 21 and LPD 17, as well on the Board of Inspection and Survey, in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and as chief of staff for the deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for shipbuilding. While he was LPD 17 program manager, the first four ships of the San Antonio class were commissioned, a fifth was delivered and four more began construction. He later became supervisor of Shipbuilding, Gulf Coast, overseeing Navy ship construction projects and Foreign Military Sales work in shipyards along the Gulf Coast and in Wisconsin.Before his current assignment, he led surface ship maintenance as commanding officer of Norfolk, Va.,Ship Support Activity.
