General Atomics To Provide EMALS to Second Ford Carrier

General Atomics (GA) announced in August that U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) had awarded it an initial sole-source contract for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) for the second Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier, John F Kennedy (CVN 79). The contract is valued at $26 million. In June 2009, GA was awarded the prime contract, with a price ceiling of $573 million, to provide EMALS and AAG systems for the first Ford-class carrier, Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).
