Cost-Effective Capabilities

The Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC) is looking at ways to augment and adapt current technologies that will have multipurpose, cost-effective uses with the service. 1. The RDC is working on using a modified dog collar to monitor and float with contraband that has been thrown overboard by suspected drug smugglers. 2. It is also working on a project to outfit small boats with several cameras that would record migrant interdiction chases. 3. A handheld unmanned system is being tested to record and search for boating registration information.
