"In high school, I knew I wanted to join one of the military branches, and I was introduced to the Coast Guard through the Boy Scouts of America and camping at the training center in Cape May, N.J. While there, we took tours of the facility and went on the 210-foot Medium-Endurance Cutters. I soon realized this was something that I wanted to do with my life. I graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 2006, and my first tour was on the High-Endurance Cutter Dallas. Next, I spent one year as the executive officer on the Island-class Patrol Boat Monomoy that was forward-deployed to Bahrain.
