The Cycle Repeats Wherever the U.S. Navy puts ships, it has to fix, modernize and sustain them. 1. The Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center serves ships in the Fifth and Sixth Fleets. 2. The maintenance team includes civilians, contractors, naval station personel and ship's company, all with a vested interest in keeping the ships well maintained and ready for tasking. 3. The forward deployment of guided-missile destroyers, patrol coastal boats and mine countermeasures ships is keeping the centers busy. The workload looks to increase when the littoral combat ship begins deploying to the Fifth Fleet area of responsibility in a couple of years.
