Fleet Mix Review

The Coast Guard is in the midst of two studies to determine the mix of aircraft it will need to meet the many missions required of it over the next three decades, with the challenge being affordabil-ity as the service also procures a new class of workhorse cutters in the next decade. One study will cover fixed-wing aviation, the other rotary-wing platforms. "Since we went from the program of record of 36 C-144s and 22 C-130Js to having the C-27s in the mix, we're currently in the process of running a fleet mix review to come up with what the right number will be," said RADM Mark E. Butt, assistant commandant for capability. "Those results should be going public about July of next year."
