South Africans in the global art market

This essay on South African art explores, through commentary and a series of interviews, the relationship that South African artists have to a global art market and its concomitant “mediascape”. Rather than beginning with a theoretical analysis of the relationship of South Africa artists to the global market, I have deliberately sought an anecdotal account of the networks of relationships that reach from South Africa to galleries and art collectors abroad.
