While screen and inkJet printing have proven to be complementary processes for graphics production, both technologies have remained limited in the types of work they're best suited to produce. For jobs with large run lengths, special spot-color requirements, or demands for extreme durability, screen printing continues to be the process of choice. On the other hand, low-volume applications and those requiring very high resolution and detail are best addressed with InkJet systems. The limited applicability of each of these processes creates several problems for graphics shops. Among them is the fact that having seen the quality of inkjet graphics, customers begin to demand comparable resolution on higher-volume screen-printed jobs. Conversely, customers expect their digitally printed jobs to deliver the same durability and color intensity as screen-printed graphics. In the past, the benefits of both printing processes have seemed mutually exclusive. But with the introduction of the new M-Press by Thieme and Agfa, graphics shops have a solution that combines the best of both worlds.
