摘要

The specific action of antisense drugs is based on recognition of certain DNA or RNA regions by antisense oligonucleotides, which requires a selective duplex formation of the sense and the complementary antisense strand. A second demand for therapeutically usefull antisense drugs is a sufficient stability of the antisense oligonucleotides against DNA and RNA cleaving enzymes. Thus, backbone modified antisense oligonucleotides are valuable target molecules in the field of antisense research, which may lead in future to a causal therapy of undesired gene expression.
