It started as a joke. Michael Schreiber, editor-in-chief of EPL, wanted to dispel the notion that his journal was only for European science. During a video interview with physicsworld.com last May to commemorate EPL's 25th anniversary, Schreiber noted that the journal takes papers from India, China, and Brazil. "If a scientist would submit an excellent paper from the ISS, the International Space Station, I'm sure we would accept it too," he added.
